Are You Ready to Join the Global Microdosing Movement?

You may have heard of the latest trend in biohacking – microdosing – and wonder what it’s all about. Microdosing with psychedelics has garnered considerable media attention for its purported abilities to enhance performance, making it popular among professionals, many who microdose before going to work.

Once an open secret among niches such as Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, creatives, and psychonauts, now more and more ordinary people around the world are making incredible advances in their personal and professional lives by taking minute doses of psychedelics such as psilocybin and LSD in order to optimize their lives.

If you are spiritually-inclined, the concept of “biohacking for optimal performance” might seem like a materialistic approach to stay uber-competitive in a dysfunctionally capitalistic world. A world that is clearly out of balance with Nature.

I understand where you are coming from.

But did you know that microdosing has long been practiced in the cultures where these medicines originated? Small, homeopathic amounts of plant medicines would be consumed in an intentional way to improve health, increase intuition, invoke spiritual guidance and maintain an ongoing spiritual dialogue with the consciousness of the plant spirit ally. This age-old practice was sacred and intended to bring the person closer to Nature, to their ancestors, and most importantly, to themselves.

Consuming small amounts of sacred plant medicines was intended to bring a person back into harmony, balance and unity with the web of life. And the potential for ancient natural psychedelics like psilocybin mushrooms, ayahuasca, and huachuma (San Pedro) to support our mental, emotional, and psychological well-being are being researched by scientists today.

Interest in microdosing over the last year has exploded over the last few years. A world in isolation and lockdown has pushed the promise of psychedelic medicine as the new frontier of psychotherapy to the forefront.

What Is Microdosing?

Microdosing involves taking sub-perceptual amounts of a psychoactive substance, roughly one-tenth the “trip” dose, in order to receive their therapeutic benefits in a subtle and gradual way. A microdose is “sub-threshold” - too little to trigger an alteration of consciousness, but enough to enhance the mind.

The most common psychedelics used for microdosing in the West are LSD and psilocybin mushrooms. However, more people are exploring the benefits of microdosing with ancestral medicines like ayahuasca, huachuma (San Pedro) and Salvia divinorum; more recent compounds like 1P-LSD, and smokeable DMT; as well as psychoactives such as cannabis, kambo and kratom.

Microdosing, if done right, is not considered to be addictive, primarily because the amount that is consumed is so low that it creates no significant alteration of consciousness or feeling of being “high”. Its physical risks are also quite low, because the amount that is consumed is so small.

For the vast majority of people seeking better living through chemistry, who have regular jobs and not a lot of spare time to trip, or process their trips, microdosing offers a great solution for those who wish to have an enhanced experience of life.

What Are the Benefits of Microdosing?

There is little scientific research into psychedelic microdosing, primarily due to the illegality of psychedelics. For this reason, the vast majority of evidence gathered about the benefits of this practice are anecdotal. Proponents of microdosing report having an increased sense of self-awareness, and an improvement in creativity, empathy, and compassion. Many microdosers report that microdosing has helped them alleviate anxiety, depression, and addiction, as well as boost their productivity.

The Department of Neuropsychology & Psychopharmacology Maastricht University, The Netherlands, surveyed 1,116 self-reported microdosers through an online questionnaire distributed between March and July 2018; results were published to the International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology in 2019.

Survey respondents’ reasons for microdosing included performance enhancement, mood enhancement, symptom relief, and curiosity. Almost half of respondents claimed that they microdosed to go to work.

In 2019, researchers from University of Toronto published the results of their anonymous online survey of 278 LSD and psilocybin microdosers, which revealed these benefits and challenges:

Online microdosing communities have swelled to tens of thousands of users. With all the purported benefits outweighing the challenges, why aren’t more people microdosing?

The main reason is self-evident: almost 30% of the respondents in the study above noted the primary drawback of microdosing to be the illegality of procuring LSD and psilocybin.

There are, however, other options.

Who This Workshop Series is For

This workshop is ideal for anyone who is interested in working with natural psychedelics, in a holistic and spiritual way. This workshop is for you if you are:

  • Intrigued by the microdosing craze that’s sweeping the world, but definitely don’t want to buy synthetic drugs made in a lab on the Dark Web using Bitcoin.
  • Seeking a creativity boost or sustained mental focus, because you’d love something that will give you a high-performance entrepreneurial or professional edge, that more coffee simply cannot sustain.
  • You are curious about psychedelics but not ready for a full experience. You have heard about the benefits of psychedelics in the news and think you might like to try them, but you’re cautious about jumping right in and would rather take things slowly.

Who This Workshop Series is NOT For

This course may not be for you if you are not ready to fully engage with a process of learning and exploring with plant medicines. This course will not help you if you:

  • Are looking for a “quick-fix” or “one-and-done” solution to your problems that won’t require any work on your part
  • Suffer from severe depression or suicidal ideation
  • Are closed-minded about the potential benefits of plant medicines
  • Are expecting to see pretty colors and get a recreational high
  • Are unwilling to apply yourself to personal exploration and improvement
  • Have a serious mental or physical health condition that you have not sought mainstream treatment for

Microdosing can have amazing benefits, but almost always the most significant changes will come from you. Microdosing will not flip a switch and suddenly give you everything you’re after – but it may show you a door to personal transformation. You will have to be prepared to do the work required to walk through that door.

You’re most likely to discover lasting positive change from microdosing plant medicines if you approach this course with an open mind, and willing to engage in an active process of reflection and receptivity.
