Dr. Joseph McCowan, PsyD (he, him) is a licensed clinical psychologist, psychedelic therapist, and researcher practicing in Los Angeles. Joseph is deeply passionate about furthering education, awareness, and access to the healing benefits of psychedelics for communities of color and in working to improve mental health outcomes for historically underserved communities.
About Joseph McCowan
Dr. Joseph McCowan, PsyD (he, him) is a licensed clinical psychologist, psychedelic therapist, and researcher practicing in Los Angeles. Since 2019, Joseph has worked as a Co-therapist and Supervisor in the MAPS sponsored Phase III clinical trials of MDMA-Assisted Therapy for PTSD. He continues to support MAPS’ (now Lykos’)Therapy Training and Education Program as a Lead Educator and Curriculum developer. In addition to his research, training, and supervision roles, Joseph supported efforts toward increasing the diversity of therapists and participants in the MAPS phase III clinical studies as part of the MAPS Diversity Working Group. Joseph currently conducts research as a therapist in the Compass Phase III Studies of Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy for Treatment Resistant Depression at the California Center for Psychedelic Therapy. Other current roles include providing psychedelic-assisted therapy education as a lead trainer with Fluence and serving on the Chacruna Board of Directors and their racial equity and access committee. Joseph is deeply passionate about furthering education, awareness, and access to the healing benefits of psychedelics for communities of color and in working to improve mental health outcomes for historically underserved communities. He received his undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and his doctorate in clinical psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
